Study teachers Assist Pupils improve

DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) —

Turquoise Parker has been a teacher for decades. She began in Chapel Hill and teaches in Durham. She teaches third grade at Eastway Elementary School.

She said that was the very first time she had ever had a teacher when she went to college at North Carolina Central University.

“When I came at Central, I was like, ‘wow a black instructor, this can be pretty awesome,’ ” Parker explained.

A new study out of Johns Hopkins University has a look at using a teacher could help determine the success of a pupil, especially in elementary school.

Said her story is different in the students. She grew up in a group of teachers, however she said she realizes the value of role models that were diverse. She said this is especially true with kids in third, fourth or even fifth grades.

“That’s this era of forming,” Parker explained, “they are super young, super hot, and if have them at the age believing that they are educated, believing that they are powerful, you’ve got them for the remainder of their life.”

Part of the study out of Johns Hopkins University concentrated on numbers out of North Carolina. Researchers monitored 100,000 black students entering tier between 2001 and 2005. Close to 13 percent dropped out of school. Almost half of the students graduated but had no plans to go to college. Pupils who had at least two black teacher were likely to be interested in faculty. That number went up to 29 percent for students on free or reduced lunches.

Parker stated that might not happen, so far as fixing the issue by employing more teachers.

“The profession isn’t appealing enough,” Parker explained.

She mentioned low pay, combined with what she described as a lack of assistance by the top down. She said being a teacher can be an underappreciated profession in the public, so it might not be appealing to people who already feel underappreciated.

Parents touched by Correspondence Luther school Instructor

LUTHER, Okla. — Most parents at Luther say they are touched by  a letter that a middle school instructor handed out to his pupils recently.

Jason Brown teaches 8th grade English at Luther Middle School.

Brown discovered a letter that a teacher in Florida gave his pupils, letting them understand that their test score does not define them.

So as the students get ready for the OSTP’s, Brown decided to tweak this letter a little little to fit his students and passed it out with them.

The letter reads:

Dear Students,

This coming week you’ll choose your OSTPs (Oklahoma State Testing Program). I understand how hard you have worked, but there is something important that you must understand: The OSTP Doesn’t assess all of what makes each of you special and unique.     The men and women who create these evaluations and score them don’t know each of you the way certainly not the way your families perform, and I do.

They do not understand that some of you speak two languages, or that you love to sing or paint a picture.     They Haven’t seen your Gorgeous and natural gift for dancing.     They don’t understand Your friends count on you to be there for them, Your head turns red Once You feel shy, or Your laughter can brighten the day.     They Haven’t heard you tell differences between a King Cobra and a Rattler.     They do not understand that you take part that occasionally you Look after your brother or sisters after college, or wonder about the future.     They do not understand that despite Managing poor Conditions, you come to college with a smile.     They do not understand That You Could tell a Wonderful story or which you really enjoy spending time (baking, searching, mudding, fishing, buying…) with particular family members and friends.     They don’t understand that you try daily to be your very best, and that you’re able to be trustworthy, thoughtful or kind.

The scores you will get from this test will tell you some thing, but they Won’t tell you what.     There Are Lots of ways of being smart.     You’re smart! You’re enough! You are! So while you are currently preparing for this test and while you are in the midst of it all, bear in mind that there is not any way to ‘examine’ all of the amazing and things which make you YOU!

Jason Brown delivered another letter home

KFOR’s Jessica Bruno is following this story and will get more this evening on NewsChannel 4.

Teacher DIYs chairs for students – Story

LOS ANGELES

Amy Maplethorpe is making a major difference for her unique needs students– all with a few tennis balls and a little paint.

Maplethorpe is at Raymond Ellis Elementary School in Round Lake in the Language and Language Department. A number of her pupils with disabilities and down syndrome had trouble processing information in their senses and the world about them. She made a few DIY seats.

According to the school’s Facebook article, that has since gone viral, “Tennis balls on the seat and backrest give an alternate texture to improve sensory regulation.”

The article was so popular that Facebook consumers clamored to get a “how-to,” that the faculty gladly Supplied in an update for those who were motivated:

“The substances used to generate the chairs included:a seat, 1/2 tennis balls, fabric, Modge Podge, paintbrush/paint sponge, along with hot glue. First, have a seat and Modge Podge the seat and backrest place fabric over it. Next, modge podge over the fabric and await it to dry, which takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Afterward paste tennis balls cut in half to backrest and the seat. If that dries, hot paste the excess fabric underneath the chair and behind the backrest to give it an “upholstered” look. It can be handy to glue around the tennis balls yet another time to get an extra hold. And the seats are complete. Happy growing!”

It is a reminder that we have everything we have to change someone’s life.
