Students at Thomas Tallis school, Kidbrooke, London, were requested to pencil a last note after reading one of the most celebrated scenes, even when Lady Macbeth takes her own life of the play.
However, the decision triggered outrage among parents, a number of whom claimed their children were personally affected by the issue, The Telegraph reported.
1 mom said her daughter was told to compose the note although having lost three friends.
She had been quoted as saying that her daughter was “very desperate” over the issue, and had informed the teacher in question which such stuff made her feel uneasy.
“My daughter had had personal experience with folks her age committing suicide,” the mom explained.
“On what universe was it ever, under any situation, a good idea to request a group of teens to write suicide notes?” She explained.
Other parents branded the decision “totally disgusting” and “insensitive”, with one claiming that the assignment was ill-conceived awarded that the age of the students involved.
“I can’t imagine why a place of instruction would do something so insensitive, especially as childhood and adolescent depression and stress is at an all time high right now, another parent said.
Headmistress Caroyln Roberts stateda parent contacted us with concerns about a composed exercise given to a course during research of a drama by Shakespeare.
“We appreciate that the exercise was upsetting to the family members and also have discussed the matter matter and approach with teaching employees, Roberts explained.
“I met with the parent a week and apologised wholeheartedly on behalf of their school and reassured them regarding the actions which were taken. The parent admitted the apology at a meeting which has been friendly and cordial, she explained.
